ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
- The department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering was established since the inception of the college in the year 1996.
- The department has been reaccredited by NBA for 3 years in 2019 for UG Programme.
- The faculty members of the department are a combination of both high qualification and experience (industrial & academic).
- JNTU-K recognized dept. of EEE as a research center for the academic years 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21.
- The department has well equipped laboratories with a total worth of more than 2.5 Crores.
- The department is also offering consultancy services in and around Visakhapatnam.
- The department is actively engaged in research. The efforts are directed towards reorienting the laboratories to establish close relation with industry.
- The department has been organizing a number of short term training programs, seminars, workshops, guest lectures by experts and student fests frequently. Faculty members are encouraged to participate in short term courses and workshops by the management of the college.
- The department has a student’s society (SEEE) which organizes cultural & literary competitions for the students.
- The department of EEE offers many courses that can be chosen as electives by the other department students.
- The department is working for the improvement of Industry – Institute Interaction in terms of academics & research and also for the development of infrastructure to match the needs of the industry.
- The department is striving hard to attain & sustain as a centre of excellence in Electrical engineering education & research with a holistic approach.

- Curriculum
- To promote the self-learning component, the students are permitted to register for online courses such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). The courses shall be chosen as Professional electives, Open Electives, Free electives, Industry Lectures, Swayam Online Courses, and Non Credit mandatory Courses as notified by Board of Studies. Courses like VLSI Physical Design (Online), Biomedical Signal Processing (Online), Solar Energy Engineering and Technology (online), Analog Circuits, Dynamics & Control, Artificial Intelligence and Solar Energy have been floated in this regard.
- Interdisciplinary mandatory courses like Design thinking and product innovation, Artificial Intelligence & Python programming have been introduced since the academic year 2019-20.
- Honor’s and Minor degree has been introduced since Academic Year 2019-20.
- Revised Curriculum, which is in line with AICTE & APSCHE has been introduced in B. Tech. (EEE) since the academic year 2019-20.
- Student Achievements
- A total of 5 students of B.Tech. (EEE) have been awarded Pratibha Awards on merit basis in 2018 (2), 2017 (3) and 2 students of M.Tech have been awarded Pratibha awards in 2018(1), 2017(1).
- Diwakar (2016-2020 Batch) of Department of EEE has secured admission in IIT Palakkad.
- 10+ students of Department EEE have been qualified in GATE examination in successive years.
- Most of the eligible students of B. Tech (EEE) have been placed in companies like TCS, Wipro, CTS and Infosys and also in the Core Sector companies like TATA Steel. L&T ,Continental AG, Bosch, Gmobis, Medha Servo Drives, Honda Mobis, Veda IIT,GE Lighting (India), LMS Automation, RINL, APEPDCL, APGENCO, APTRANSCO, BHEL, NTPC, RRB.
- Many of our alumni are pursuing their higher studies in IITs and reputed universities, abroad.
- Faculty Achievements & Research
- Book Chapter “On Board Electric Vehicle Charger in G2V and V2G Modes based on PI, PR and SMC Controllers with Solar PV Charging Circuit”, in Book Title: “Technological Challenges and Advances in Wind and Solar Energy Applications” CRC Press, Taylor & Francis (Accepted 01-08-2021) (Scopus indexed) by Dr. GVE Satish Kumar.
- 45 Papers have been published in various Conferences and reputed journals since last 3 years.
- K. Srikanth, Assistant Professor was awarded Doctorate Degree in the research area of Control Systems at GITAM University, Visakhapatnam in 2020.
- Dr K. Srikanth has received a “Best Researcher Award” from the International Scientist Award on Engineering, Science and Medicine, 28&29 August 2021, Trivandrum, India from VDGOOD Non Profit Organization towards professional contribution.
- O.V.S.R. Vara Prasad, Assistant Professor was awarded Doctorate Degree in the research area of Power Electronics and Drives at NIT Warangal in 2020.
- A. Ravi Shankar, Assistant Professor is pursuing part time Ph. D. in the research area of Power Systems Generation at Andhra University, Visakhapatnam.
- K. Durga Malleswara Rao, Assistant Professor is pursuing full time Ph. D. in the research area of Power Systems at IIT, Madras through QIP.
- G. Surya Chandra, Assistant Professor is pursuing full time Ph. D. in the research area of Power Systems at National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan.
- 6 more faculty members are pursuing part time Ph. D. in the area of Power Systems & Power Electronics at NIT Rourkela, NIT Meghalaya & Universities.
- 2 more faculty members are pursuing part time Ph. D. under Visweswarayya Ph. D. scheme in the area of Power Electronics at NIT Rourkela.
- 5 faculty members have been accorded recognition by the JNTU K/Reputed Private Universities to act as Supervisor/ Co- Supervisor.
- K. Narasimha Rao, Professor & Head of Department (EEE) along with 4 B.Tech (ECE) students Participated in the Silicon Valley Meetup at Stanford University, San Francisco, USA sponsored and funded by GVPCE (A) under Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) Intern programs in November 2017 and received as “Best Faculty Champion” by the M/s GOOGLE, San Fransico, USA.
- Research and Consultancy
- HBL Power systems, Hyderabad sponsored R & D Project related to Electrical Vehicle drive system, where EEE department, GVP college of Engineering is participating along with EE department IIT- Bombay with Dr. Sastry V Vedula as the Project coordinator and the assured sum for GVPCE is Rs 56 Lakhs spread over 2 years between January 2019 - December 2020.
- Department of EEE, GVPCE (A) has played the anchor’s role in commissioning of 199 kW Wind-Solar hybrid plant (initially proposal sanctioned in Jan 2012) in the premises of 3 GVP institutions, worth Rs. 3.73 crores, of which Ministry of Non-Renewable Energy sources (MNRE) sponsored Rs 1.70 crores. The Project-coordinator of this project is Dr. Sastry V Vedula.
- AICTE(DST) has approved R&D Project on “Direct Torque Controlled Induction Motor Drive for Hybrid Electric Vehicles with Space Vector Modulated Sliding Mode Controller to reduce torque ripple”, with a sanctioned amount of Rs. 9 Lakhs by Dr. G. V. E. Satish Kumar.
- HBL Power Systems Ltd. has signed for a Consultancy with GVPCE (A) for a period of 2 years with a proposed amount of Rs.49 Lakhs by Dr. Sastry V Vedula.
- Internships
- Core companies like G.E Lighting, National Science Technological Laboratories (NSTL), Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), Mahindra Reva (Bangalore), Steel Plant, Amar Raja Batteries Ltd., Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), etc. have offered internship opportunities to many students of B.Tech & M.Tech students.
- Patents
- Sastry V Vedula, K. Harija Rani, Dept. of EEE have filled an Indian Patent titled “Integrated Power Converter topology with built in safety protection circuit for Grid independent Variable voltage, frequency Applications” in June 2020.
- Academic & Technical Resources
- Licensed version of SABER software worth 8 lakhs (approximately) has been procured in Dept of EEE, GVPCE, with the financial aid of HBL Power Systems Ltd, as part of their consultancy contract with Dr Sastry V Vedula.
- An initiative has been taken, with co-ordinator being Dr.K. Srikanth, for Robotic Developments under GVPCE RoboClub and a seed money of Rs.1,10,400 has been sanctioned to it by GVPCE (A).
- Licensed version of JMAG(FEM) software worth of 6.5 lakhs(approximately) has been procured in Dept of EEE, GVPCE, with the financial aid of HBL Power Systems Ltd, as part of their consultancy contract with Dr Sastry V Vedula.
