Department of Physics

About the Department:

Department of Physics was established in the year 1996. At Present there are 6 PhDs on its rolls. The spacious physics laboratory meets the various requirements of students of different branches. One of the facilities like optics lab helps the students to explore the optical phenomena that are taught in the theory courses.  The apparatus like semiconductor LASER, Stewart and Gee apparatus, Four Probe apparatus etc. are useful in understanding the fundamental concepts of Physics and their applications in engineering fields. The department is conducting workshops and seminars at regular intervals. Recently it has conducted a 5-day national webinar on Materials Characterization NWMC-2023. One of the faculty members Dr. R Praveena was felicitated with Young Scientist Award by AP & Telengana states. Recently, one faculty member Dr. P V Rajeswari was granted a South Africa patent entitled “Bacterials Composition in Enhancing Fluorescence”.  Some faculty are supervising Ph.D. students under JNTU-Kakinada and Andhra University. The faculty members are currently recognized as Andhra University Transdisciplinary Research Hub (AU-TDR) supervisors.

The faculty members are doing their research at the Centre for Nanoscience and Technology established in 2010 under the able guidance of Late Prof. T S N Somayaji who was a former Professor of Physics, Andhra University to promote interdisciplinary research.  This center is equipped with thin film deposition systems by various techniques, Muffle furnaces, UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Ultrasonic bath etc. This facility is being used by the B.Tech. and M.Tech. students of various branches for their project work.   Four projects worth INR 48 Lakhs funded by different agencies like UGC, DST, DAE-BRNS are completed. The research activities are going on in the fields of condensed matter physics, photoluminescence, photocatalysis, gas sensing etc.
