Department of Mathematics

Vision:

To be a centre of excellence in Mathematics and actively engage in teaching and research.

Mission:

  • To transform young talent into skilled professionals with a sound theoretical base and practical knowledge of Mathematical tools.
  • To be a centre for advanced research in various areas of mathematics.
  • To cater to the development of the nation, particularly the Andhra Pradesh region, through research and other academic activities.

 About the Department:

With 9 doctorates in a contingent of 11 members, the faculty of the Department of Mathematics is very active and strong in both teaching and research. The department caters to the needs of the engineering students by offering all the necessary prerequisite mathematics courses required in the curriculum.  It makes specific efforts and caters to the needs of slow learners and students having back logs.

The faculty have published more than 200 research papers in peer reviewed journals to date. With two faculty as Research guides, five research scholars obtained their Doctoral degree and a few more are in the offing.  One faculty member is in the editorial board of four international journals and also reviews for American Mathematical Reviews and Zentralblatt Math.  A couple of faculty are reviewers for various international journals.  A couple of faculty co-authored research monographs and text books for undergraduate and graduate students.

The department in association with the Gayatri Vidya Parishad Professor V. Laksmikantham Institute for Advanced Studies (GVP-LIAS) organizes seminars/workshops/conferences every year.  They organized four International conferences titled, “Recent Advances in Mathematical Sciences and Applications (RAMSA)” in 2009, 2013 2017 and 2021.  They also conduct GVP Math Olympiad every year for students of engineering in and around Visakhapatnam.  Most of the faculty regularly attend conferences/seminars/workshops as resource persons/paper presenters/participants. The department also boasts of hosting a good number of distinguished mathematicians from various parts of the country and from abroad.
