GVPCE  Leadership Role  for  Earliest Skill Development Center  in 2002

The management of the GVPCE (A) has realized as early as at the beginning of the current millennium that one of the areas in engineering education in Indian Universities that requires special attention is the development of state of the art practical skills amongst students in engineering colleges, polytechnics and ITIs. It is around that time the Government of Andhra Pradesh in collaboration with the German Government (through its agency GTZ) wanted to establish a skill development centre at Visakhapatnam on the lines of CRISP at Bhopal and was looking for a private engineering college as a partner to establish and run such an institute on PPP model. After visits to a number of private engineering colleges in and around Visakhapatnam in 2002 by a team of experts from the two Governments, the GVPCE (A) was selected as the private partner because of its outstanding track-record in developing a new institution to a high level in a very short time. This partnership resulted in the establishment of the Indo-German Institute of Advanced Technology (IGIAT) in the Industrial Estate of Visakhapatnam.

The German Government contributed aid worth about Rs 12 crores in the form of services of technical experts and equipment, The AP Government provided about 5 acres of land and Rs 4 crores for the building (about 30 000 sq ft) and the GVP has contributed about Rs 2.5 crores towards initial recurring expenses and also provided management services during the first few years of its existence. Prof Dr Ing. P S Rao, Principal (1996-2005) of GVPCE (A), was also the Founding Director of Indo-German Institute for Advanced Training (IGIAT) during (2005-06).

IGIAT has during the last 10 years has trained over 30,000 candidates in various fields like CNC Machining, Skills for CNC programming, Advanced software skills for programming PLCs and Drives and Computer Networking (in collaboration with CISCO), which are a few worth mentioning. A large number of the trainees could get employment in prestigious firms in Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. IGIAT is now the premier skill development centre in the new state of Andhra Pradesh.

Latest Skill Development centric Laboratory built at GVPCE in 2015

Investing about 1.5 crores, GVPCE in collaboration with Rockwell Automation, India very recently, has established a state of the art Integrated Electrical Machines & Drive Systems ( IEMDS) Laboratory for improving the skills of the undergraduate / graduate students (majoring in Power & Energy areas) while conforming to present day industry trends, where computers are used for Modeling & Simulation, Data Acquisition & Control making use of industry standard LabVIEW / Multisim programs. A typical view of this Integrated Lab keeping systems view point is shown below.

Recent Mobile App. Talent exhibited by Students of GVPCE

The students of B.Tech. (IT) Mr. Gorle Pradeep Kumar developed a Mobile App titled “SMS Cryptor” which facilitate sharing confidential security information and another one by Buddha Appa Rao titled “Three Senses” that helps the visually challenged. The same have been demonstrated by them during inauguration of APSSDC App development program held in January 2015 in the presence of Honorable Chief Minister of A.P at Vijayawada.
