The Department of Information Technology was established in the year 1999 with an annual intake of 40 students at Undergraduate level which was later increased to 120 students.  The department is also sanctioned with M.Tech in software engineering with an intake of 18 in 2008. The department was accredited in 2006 for three years by NBA-AICTE committee and was reaccredited for 3 more years in the year 2011. The department was accredited by NAAC in the year 2010 and re-accredited in 2016.

The department is functioning with 24 faculty members, who are specialized in diverse fields of Computer Science & Information Technology. The department is enriched with 3 PhD holders and some of the faculty members pursuing their PhD’s.  Some of the faculty members are SUN Micro Systems Certified java professionals and some are trained and certified in java by IIIT Hyderabad.  Faculties have attended various workshops being conducted at various IIT’s, IIIT’s & NIT’s. Majority of the faculty are certified in one or more IBM technologies like IBM DB2 V9, R.F.T, and RAD etc.

A graduate of Information Technology Engineering will be able to

PO1:    Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and principles of Information Technology to solve problems in different domains.

PO2:    Analyze a problem, identify and formulate the computing requirements appropriate to its solution.

PO3:    Design and develop software components, patterns, processes, Frameworks and applications that meet specifications within the realistic constraints including societal, legal and economic to serve the needs of the society

Departmental Association

The department has a professional body called ORBIT (Organization for Bright intellectual Technocrats) to enhance innovative and professional thinking among students. ORBIT publishes a bi monthly magazine called “IT STUDENT DIGEST”. The magazine publishes new trends in technology, technical reviews of gadgets and department news updates which help the students to update their knowledge in the area of Information Technology and to be in touch with the department.

Additional Programs to the Students

To provide our students with an additional advantage, we are offering, through experts, value added programs such as CCNA course for networking and CIT course to increase employability opportunities of students.

 

Achievements

     The  IV B.Tech project entitled “More Memorable & Secure Graphical Password Authentication Mechanism“ is awarded as the best project by TCS among the final year projects of B.Tech C.S.E , B.Tech I.T,  and M.C.A for the year 2011.

     Two Faculty obtained mastery in the courses “Computational thinking” and “ java programming” conducted by IIIT Hyderabad in the year 2011.

   IMMANENI ARCHANA of 2007 admitted batch obtained 1st Rank among all affiliated college of JNTU-Kakinada.

       More than 80% of the current batch students got placed in reputed companies.
